If you are a credentialer who needs primary source verification of certification for physicians, the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) is the best place to start.
Starting in 2026, the ABD will transition to a continuous certification program under which diplomates certificates do not contain end dates. Certification remains valid as long as the diplomate participates in the ABD's continuing certification activities. A diplomate's continuing certification status can be re-verified annually after February 15.
You can get more information at ABMS Solutions, which offers a variety of online resources for checking board certification, depending on your needs. Also, you may contact ABMS Solutions by email at sales@abmssolutions.com, or by phone at 1-800-733-2267.
However, if you need verification of a dermatologist’s certification when ABMS resources are not available, you can contact us at the ABD for written verification.
Please email your request to: Communications@ABDerm.org
You must include the physician’s full name, date of birth, and a recently signed release from the physician in question. Please also include an email address to which the verification can be sent.
The fee for written verification is $35 per name, payable by credit card (American Express, Discover, VISA or MasterCard).
If you have questions, please email or call us at (617) 910-6400 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (ET) Monday through Friday.
