At what point during training are residents eligible to take the CORE Exam?
Residents become eligible for the CORE Exam during their second year of residency (DRY2), after having completed at least 1.5 years of training. There is a 2-module limit for DRY2 candidates taking the exam during the February administration. The CORE Exam is offered three times during the third year of residency (DRY 3), typically in July, October and February. During these administrations, candidates may take as many modules as they wish.
NOTE: Residents in Canadian training programs may begin taking CORE Exam modules in February of their PGY4 year, which is equivalent to DRY 2.
