2020 BASIC Exam: Open April 2 - June 12
Due to the rapidly evolving situation with COVID-19, the ABD will offer the 2020 BASIC Exam from April 2 through June 12, at the individual programs’ choice, rather than on a single day in April. Since the BASIC Exam remains a program-proctored event, and is not configured as a remotely proctored exam, this allows each program to adjust their scheduled administration date according to their local situation and recommendations from public health officials. Programs do not need to arrange their preferred date in advance with the ABD. The exam will be accessible for all programs for the duration of the administration window. This wide administration window will necessarily delay the scoring of exams, but the health of everyone concerned is the ABD’s primary consideration.
The ABD believes the BASIC Exam provides a useful benchmark for residents and programs and hopes that the flexible scheduling will allow everyone registered to safely sit for the exam. However, the BASIC Exam is NOT required for certification. Residents who are unable to take the BASIC Exam still qualify for the CORE Exam, which is required for certification.
We wish all of you a safe and healthy remainder of this academic year.
